The Measure of a Man

by Stefani on 3-December-2009

Five years ago today, we were welcoming our third Musketeer into the world.

Five years Ago

He has had us grinning ear to ear ever since.

Our guy is confident, sure, brave and strong. He is smart as a whip and an old soul. He is a warrior and a prince, wildly charming and fiercely loving.

He is a gift beyond measure.

Today he is five. FIVE!

Five joy-filled, laughter-soaked, crazy, wild, edge-of-your-seat years with a little boy that grips the heart of everyone he meets.

He woke up to lights and bunting and squeals of celebration, monkey muffins (banana chocolate chip), and the earnest love of his four greatest admirers.

Birthday Dude

His brothers have been planning something super special for him for weeks. They're giving him a whole bunch of duct tape, and they told him that today we'll go from dumpster to dumpster and store to store gathering boxes to make "the biggest, bestest birthday box fort EVER!"

He was duly impressed.

Then, we put him in the pantry and held the ceremonial "measuring of the man."

Measure of a Man

The ruler was brought out, and the official declaration was made, that he'd spent the last year adding three and a quarter inches to his height!…

3 1/4!

… and immeasurable blessing to his family.

Happy Birthday to our sweet Ryder!

That look on your lil man’s face in the photo where he is sitting on the table literally made me cry. That look! It’s the look of a young man who knows beyond any doubt that he is loved fiercely and has a safe place to grow, be, and dwell in this crazy world! What a gift you are giving to him. Better than anything wrapped up in paper! Blessing on year 6 and on your family! Thanks for sharing.
