Are there two sweeter words in the vocabulary of a stay at home mama than “Date Night?”

I think not.

The man of my dreams took me to Musashino tonight. I tried not to embarass the living crud out of him by taking a picture of every bloody thing, but I had to snap a couple. I just did.

There is something about the Japanese aesthetic that appeals to me. So clean. So thoughtful.

We sat at the bar, as we like to do, so that we could watch the action. It always amazes me how these guys can be SO busy, hands and knives always moving, and yet seem so quietly serene. This one, in the photo, was art in motion. He was so attentive to every last detail. He would prepare a dish, and in the middle of a crazed Friday night, people rushing all around him, orders flying, he would stand back, and take a second to just gaze at each creation, as if etching it in memory. A little piece of craft accomplished.

It is a nice reminder, to a Mama, to stop at intervals, no matter how hectic, and just appreciate. Mental note.

And by the way, if you ever find yourself in Musashino, order the spicy tuna roll, blue fin sushi, tempura (shrimp, onion, broccoli, asparagus and sweet potato) and top it off with some mango and/or green tea ice cream. Oh Heavenly Days! Go on ahead and listen to the Patty Griffen song by that name on your way home, it will make the night complete!

Well actually no, having a handsome man drive you home to be welcomed by three darn cute little rugrats who have been treated to dominos, Monopoly AND Uno by their obliging Grandparents, THAT will make your night complete.

Life is good.

For Heather on Soule Mama’s blog – Thank you SO much for the kind words. I was so pleasantly surprised! I can’t figure out why it won’t let you post a comment over here. I don’t appear to have any weird discriminitory settings, but I will do my best to ferret out the problem, cuz I’d love to have you here! Thanks for letting me know!

Ah, the best of both worlds! I feel so fortunate to be a stay-at-Mom. I can get real sappy – I know how fortunate I am and how lucky my daughters & I are to have a husband/father who understands how important it is for me to be home for them/us…but we do need more date nights!
