Fat Matter Winner!

by Stefani on 23-March-2009

Good Monday morning all!

Thank you so much for your enthusiasm for Fat Matter's lovely letterpress stationary. Their work is gorgeous isn't it?

Please know that in times like these, I don't mean to encourage you to think that you need to buy a bunch of stuff. What I'm hoping to say is that if you're going to buy, say for a birthday or Mother's Day or something, please think about supporting people out there  who are making their way by making beautiful things. Each and every one of the buttons over there on my "sponsor" section, represents a real family doing their best to get by, but also doing their best to add something real, mindful and lovely to the world.

I wanted to say too that I really wish that  I could send you all a Fat Matter card. In your card I would tell you how much it means to me that you come here. I'd use way too many words to tell you what an uplifting and encouraging place you make this – and how much this girl appreciates and needs that.

It's been a tough weekend, full of doubts and blecky junk that I won't get into – but suffice it to say that it's good, really really good, to have this soft place to fall – to know that so many kind, encouraging people are out there.

Okay, enough sap for now, I just wanted to thank you. Truly.

And now for our Fat Matter giveaway winner: commenter #68, Heather, who said,

"The buttercups. My favorite "weed". If only the weeds in our yard were so pretty.

I love this time of year for so many reasons, but at the top of my list are my naked babies. My one year old son loves running around the outside in all his naked glory.

We came across The Root Children in a thrift shop today. I picked it up, remembering your recommend from Jan Book of Days. Loved it. My daughter played under a blanket for half an hour, pretending to be a root child underground."

Heather, I will email you soon about your prize!

Allong those lines… our new April edition of the Book of Days will be available by Wednesday or Thursday, which means you've only got a couple of days left to enter to win the Mama Kopp giveaway!

Alright, time to pull myself up by the boot straps and climb today's mountains.
I wish you all a wonderful week.

Stefani, thinking of you always, these are difficult days and your grace under pressure is admirable. When I get stressed out about money I remember the stories my MIL told about when my husband was little. After Mt St Helens erupted there was an economic downturn in our area and not much work to be had. They got to the point where they were eating popcorn and pancakes for dinner. She suffered from guilt about it for years. And yet, my husband told a different story, about the night when they had pancakes! or Popcorn!! for dinner. It was like a party for him.

Kids are resilient that way. Hope it all works itself out.

Stefani, although most of your readers (myself included) are complete “strangers” we come here because we like where your heart is and the beauty you share. The companies you highlight are part of that sharing of beautiful things – You make it easier for us when we would like to buy something and do it from a good place. Like you said, you are helping the people employed by those companies – the moms and pops who are as you put “trying to get by.” Thanks and keep up the recommendations and sponsors. It does everyone good!

Our family has been affected too – I am out of work right now – the company owned by my aunt and uncle could not stay open and closed after 32 years. It’s hard to think that the company has been open almost as long as I have been alive. I find your family’s approach inspiring – resourcefulness and finding one’s passions from all of this is how we will get out of this.

Whatever you had to deal with the other night, I hope it ends up better than expected. You put such goodwill and beauty and honesty and realness out into the universe (not to mention all the hard work in Book of Days) that I believe it must be headed back to you. Many good wishes to you and your little half nakeds!

“…time to pull myself up by the boot straps and climb today’s mountains…” You can’t go wrong with that kind of thinking. That kind of outlook will take you anywhere you wanna go. And I’m gonna borrow it! There’s something brilliant about you, Stefani. I love getting to look through your rose-colored glasses.

Congrats to Heather!

I found out the other day that one of my new readers was perusing my site, found a link to YOUR lovely blog…and spent the next TWO HOURS hopping from post to post on Blue Yonder. You’re a wonder, mama!

Oh goodness- the April book already! We’re already having a bit of a hard week and it’s only Monday morning so we’ll be very much looking forward to downloading that one!

Sorry to hear about your rough weekend. Thanks to you for creating this place. It may be a comfort to you, but it is also a wonderful ‘safe’ place for so many of us to come too. You are such a gift!

And, of course, we thank you for all the beauty and encouragement we find here. You’ve created quite a wonderful community here.

Thanks for that! I know my kids would be unendingly grateful for dinners of pancakes and popcorn!
