Bird -O- Vision

by Stefani on 14-July-2009

Happy new week y'all!

Our Ryder is much better now. Thank you so much for all your well wishes! No one else is hugging the green bowl yet, so, so far so good.

It's still too dang hot to go outside though, well or not, and we are missing our romps in the woods so much.

So, we decided to cash in our change jar and splurge on a few bird feeders to hang outside our schoolroom.

Window FeederHummingbird Happy Hour

We can sit, half dressed, and watch the birds.

We can sip lemonaid and watch birds.

We can read and look up between pages to watch birds.

Quick! Take a Picture!

We can eat ice cream, fan ourselves and watch birds.

We can paint and draw and glue and color… and watch birds.

DocumentingTwo at a Time!

We can play checkers or Uno and in between shouts of "King Me!" or "Draw TWO, punk!", we can watch birds.

Or we can just, you know, watch birds.   We're calling it "Bird-O-Vision."

In the last hour, 7 hummingbirds have visited our feeder (or maybe just one gluttonous bird, for all we know). But as of yet, we've had no visitors to the seed feeder. Apparently the feathered residents of our yard are not yet aware that there's a new cafe in town.

That's okay. We aren't going anywhere.

In other news…

If you'd like to hear more of my incessant whining, know what I"m making for dinner, how much I owe in library fines, what blog giveaways I'm hoping to win or other completely unnecessary information, you can now join me on Twitter

Just so you know though, I refuse to say that I've "tweeted" or that I'm a "follower." A girl, even a girl who stays in her pajamas, stares out the window and eats popsicles all day, must have her standards you know.

You always crack me up! We have duck-o-vision around here. We talk about them like they are characters in a novel or human neighbors. Sometimes I have to remind myself to keep it in check around other people.
Enjoy your bird friends!

Love those birdie drawings – your guys are naturals!

Well I’m glad to hear that you have to watch yourself in public too!
Do you know that yesterday I was talking to a little girl in line at the grocery store… she had something on her face and I actually licked my thumb and almost… ALMOST wiped her face with it. Thankfully I caught myself before I totally embarrassed us both.
I can’t decide if I should get out more or just stay in my cave where I belong!

Stefani July 14, 2009 at 12:00 pm

Thanks Diahn! I will have to show them YOUR birds and then your comment. They will be so pleased to have gotten the notice of a “real live artist” 🙂

Oh to have trees, brush, and consequently, birds. Someday this neighborhood will have birds. Right now we only seem to have the highly bully-ish mockingbirds as our neighborhood is still new enough that the trees are teeny tiny. We even have over a dozen 9-12 foot tall sunflowers almost ready to harvest in the back yard and no birds to be seen. …someday…

Love the hummingbird drawing and the picture of the three of your boys together!

I can’t wait to set up bird feeders after we move so that I can sit on my verandah and have my own version of Bird-o-vision.

Love the drawings your guys did of them…there’s some real talent showing there 🙂

Ah yes. The incessant heat of a Texas summer. I am so thankful that up to this point we have had such a mild summer. It means that my tomatoes are still not ripe, but it also means that we can have play dates in the park and hang out in the tree house as much as we want. We feel lucky for that.
Hang in there!!

(I followed you on twitter, a place I swore I’d never go, but alas, there I am.)

That is so fun! Great feeders… that pic of the boys watching rocks! Love the hum at the feeder drawing!

Annje July 14, 2009 at 7:41 pm

GReat site. I love those hummingbirds. I am in TX too… NOT enjoying the heat. We are miserable!

That was a cute post. I can’t believe you got a shot of that hummingbird. I’ve been trying to get a shot of our hummingbird visitors for years. But ours are just visiting our flowers, rather than a feeder, so it’s not too often that they sit. Too cute! Glad to hear that you’re all well, too.

You got me at popsicles.

With waning migraine, I allowed myself to be led to Costco today to buy giant box of all-natural popsicles. They were NOWHERE TO BE FOUND. I don’t want ice cream sandwiches or blackberry sorbet bars. I want lime-flavored Dreyer’s Bars. Where is the justice in this world???

Very nice blog and GREAT pictures…I stumbled in here today and just might spend the day..I may get fired, but will have lots of reading to do tomorrow!!

Stefani July 15, 2009 at 10:34 am

Well thank you so much for the compliments, Melinda. And welcome to Blue Yonder!

Stefani July 15, 2009 at 10:34 am

Ack!!!! Now I must have lime flavored Dryers Bars! What have you done to me?

Stefani July 15, 2009 at 10:35 am

I cannot begin to tell you how many times I tried to get that shot! Feeders are the way to go for sure though. Get one with a nice big place for them to sit and stay awhile!

Stefani July 15, 2009 at 10:36 am

Hi Annie, and welcome! Come back often and we can commiserate about the heat.
Did you hear that we now have Saharan sand in the air, as an extra added bonus?

Stefani July 15, 2009 at 10:37 am

You and me both! I held out as long and as hard as I could! We can be reluctant tweeters together, okay? 🙂

are you on Facebook?

Stefani July 16, 2009 at 8:25 pm

Yep, under “Stefani Ackerman Austin”… I’m a terribly disappointing facebooker though. I don’t think I’ve checked in since May 🙂

Now that you’ve been a Twitterer for a while – what do you think?
