Every year, after Christmas, I start to get all twitchy … anxious to get rid of the clutter and disarray, to clean and organize everything that isn’t nailed down.
Once the tree comes down and the ornaments are packed away, I feel this overwhelming drive to wipe the slate clean. I want drawers, cabinets, closets, shelves, under the beds, behind the washing machine… all of it, every inch, clean and in order. It lasts all of five minutes, this cleanliness, but I just can’t see starting a new year without at least attempting to get off on the right foot, you know? I need an organized pantry and a bowl full of black eyed peas in order to take on the next 365 days.
This year, my cleaning and straightening is stretching all the way into my bloggy home. For lots of very good reasons that I won’t belabor because they would bore you all to tears, the time has come for me to move my little space down the road a bit. From here on out, I’ll be setting up bloggy housekeeping over at the Ranch. I really hope that you’ll join me.
This space has been such an immense blessing to me over the last two years. It has given me the chance to stand back some, get a little perspective on things. It’s done so much to put me in the habit of noticing and treasuring up the most beautiful, ordinary bits of this crazy mama life. And, in so many ways, that is because of you.
Raising little ones and homeschooling can sometimes be awfully isolating. No matter how hard I try to keep things simple and slow, life just slips past me like a freight train, and before I know it I haven’t talked to anyone to whom I am not related by blood or marriage in days and days. Having you all here to swap stories and recipes with, to learn from and laugh with, well it just means so much. I can’t imagine why y’all put up with me sometimes, but I’m so grateful that you do. Truly.
So, I know it’s a big pain and all, but I hope that you’ll change your feed readers, bookmark us, put up a sticky note, whatever it is that you do, so that you’ll remember to come and join us over at the Ranch. It just wouldn’t be home without you!
As with any move, it will take us a while to get things in their rightful places and settle into our new home, so please bear with us.
I hope to see you there!

Congrats on the change! Funny, I just did the same thing around home yesterday. I tossed out 6 huge bags of stuff… and I love on a BOAT? I mean where the heck was it all hiding and why?
Happy New Year!
whoops, that’s LIVE on a boat. Well I love on it too.
I see a trend here! Maybe that’s what keeps me coming back for more. We are doing away with everything that isn’t a major fixture too. How do we accumulate so much stuff? I love the energy that comes with a new project and how it drives me until the end. I can’t wait to see your end project! Happy Cleaning!
Thank you so much for making the trip over to the Ranch, Tiffany!
And I so know what you mean. I feel like I clean all the time and yet… where does all this stuff come from????
Good luck to you in the new year!
Well…there you are! Funny, I think that even when the holidays are kept simple and even homemade, it’s the need to clear the mind, spirit, and home for the new possibilities that 2010 will bring (wow, that was weird typing the date!). Maybe it’s all the indoor time that comes with the changing season, but whatever it is there will be lots of that cleaning energy happening in this home as well. Happy new year to you and your sweet family!
And to you and yours Melanie!
I agree with you too.. it does sound so strange to say 2010! I swear we were JUST ringing in 2000… where does the time go?
Hi Stefani, I feel exactly the same way about reorganizing in the new year. I’ll be updating my bloglines feed right away! Lina x
Thank you so much, Lina! Happy cleaning!
The Dandelion gang will follow wherever you go!
Happy rearranging, reorganizing, cleaning out!
I’m so glad to have those Dandelions along for the ride… they even out all this boy-ness! Thank you, friend
I’m there too. Rearranging like mad. I will happily move my reader to your new home and I can’t live without you.
Happy New Year friend to everyone at the ranch.
Oh I’m so glad to you have you here, Valarie! Do you know that everytime I see your name I think of cherry blossoms? You’ll forever mean rows and rows of spring pink blossoms to me

Lora
Lora! Thank you so very very much for your kind words about my blog!
Love and blessings to you as well
Done and bookmarked! Geez, you are such a pain, Stefani
Listen here, missy, don’t make me come over there!
I am 100% with you on the need to clean this time of year. Both (yes, I have two) of my junk drawers got an overhaul last weekend, along with the pantry, which quickly developed into an entire kitchen re-organization project, lasting the entire day, and involving my husband’s help! Totally worth it! And it’s like a contagious bug…the more I clean, the more I feel the need to organize…but I love it!
Isn’t that the truth? That’s why I’m so leery of beginning any cleaning project… it always grows into a monstrous endeavor. Always. Happy cleaning to you!
