Hey y’all!
Just a quick note to say that our beloved Bandana Pants have been featured over at the
Sew, Mama, Sew! blog.
Sew, Mama, Sew! blog.
It’s the sweetest post, and will no doubt have me grinning ear to ear for some time.
I was so flattered and excited when the gals over at Sew, Mama Sew! asked if I’d make a quick little “pattern” for these shorts. Now that it’s up, I get a little giggly thinking about all the little legs that will soon be running around in bandanas!
If you’ve followed the SMS links and are visiting Blue Yonder for the first time, welcome! I’m so glad that you’re here! Make yourself at home, and let me know if I can getcha anything, alright?
The bandana pants pattern is more of a little cheat sheet – some notes scrawled from one friend to another, for you to print and keep by your sewing machine as you churn out those summer shorts. You can find it here.
You can also find gobs of other neat projects, reviews, contests, inspiring ideas and gorgeous fabrics over at Sew Mama Sew! I could get lost for days in all that goodness!
Happy sewing friends, and have a wonderful weekend!

What a great photo! The tire swing attracts me just as much as the marvelous pantsI didn’t get a chance to say how much I love the hankies and the cross-eyed photo. I laugh and laugh when I read your posts! I’ve even read the posts out loud to our family and we all get a good laugh. My kids love your chickens!
I just made a pair of those for one of my boys last weekend! They are the cutest things. Thanks for sharing your method.
Ditto on the above comment! Your blog is so very entertaining and funny to read! I always come away with a smile after reading your posts.
Thank you for the bandana pants tut. I also think your drawings are adorable! Just so very cute!
I just love synchronicity. On Thursday, I featured a link to your pants on my blog. I think that’s very cool. Congratulations on all the linky goodness coming your way.
Just came over from Sew Mama Sew and printed out your cheat sheet. I’m thinking pink bandanas for a little girl I know. Nice site!
Well, I have been meaning to post for awhile to thank you for what my daughter has been calling our “Blue Yonder Summer”. My daughter wears your bandana pants almost daily, we have been going to “summer school” and enjoying the tranquility, and the novelty (we are homeschoolers too) and dining frequently on tomato pie. Thanks for a great summer.
How much fun! Well deserved spotlight…
Ditto on the tomato pie. I have scads of tomatoes just about to ripen and I cannot wait to make one the very minute I get a chance.
Pink bandannas would be a very good idea indeed!! Great for wearing over swim suits. I think I’ll make some in time for the family reunion we have coming up. Wish I could squish my tush into some…
yea , for you !!! you know they are just too cute!! too bad i have 3 gals ! but i do know some little fellas who would look fab in them! triple on the tom. pie makin’ one tomorrow! geez i use an awful lg. amount of “1″ don’t i ??
I was just thinking about your bandanna pants, it has been so hot here and we hardly ever do heat! that my boys are sadly lacking in shorts..We’re sadly lacking in bandannas as well but not fabric…here’s to some shorts in the future and hurray for you and your SMS fame!
I found your site through sewmamasew and am so glad your tutorial was up there! I really enjoy your site and can’t wait to try out the tutorial!
Those are so cool!
I already had my bandanas at the ready, and was so excited to come across the pdf! Woo hoo! I operate so much better with a cheat sheet right in front of me at all times. Now I am officially out of excuses for just making them already.
I don’t know what I did wrong, but I made the bandana pants about a month ago and they came out, how can I put this, um, like bizarre tight at the bottom and loose at the top clown pants! Ha. My daughter says she can wear them for halloween. Maybe I’ll try again with he new directions.
oh no, martha! I’m so sorry to hear that! If you try them again, and find that something unclear in the directions led you astray, please let me know so that I can fix it!
Well done I bet you are so pleased.
Congrats on the Bandana Pants success! That is exactly how I stumbled upon your wonderful blog over a year ago. You had such a great tutorial and attractive blog, that I was imediately hooked! Your pants are so contagoius and have been a favorite of our family and friends ever since. I have made several as baby gifts, birthday gifts and the like. They are so easy to coordinate with and match with siblings and tshirts. Thanks for such a great blog and being such a beautiful inspiration to all of us homeschooling mommies out there. Many Blessings.
This is a great tutorial. Thank you.
Can you tell me the size of the bandanas you used and the size of the boys they fit (the largest size)? Thank you.
I love that shop and the momma that runs it. I’ve known her for some time – since she also owned Go, Goose Go!
CONGRATULATIONS.
I have to say every single time I see a photo of them I think, “Yep, need to do that.”
cool! i really wanted to make some more of those this summer – but it hasn’t happened. i need to stockpile bandannas for next summer!
Hey! I really like checking what you have to say and thanks for sharing your fun recipes. I also now have a necklace coming from Eva too (they are way cool) Thanks!
Just wanted to thank you for the inspiration and the pattern for the bandana pants. I’m another person who followed the link from SewMamaSew, and am now a daily reader. Beautiful blog!
My 4-year-old loves to help me sew, and this afternoon we sat down with the perfect bandanas (red with puppy paw prints all over them) and made a pair together. The pictures on the cheat sheet made it more fun for him because he didn’t have to wait for me to read the directions out loud. He knew exactly what to do next.
Now if only I could get him to sit still long enough to model them!
