What I Want To Be When I Grow Up

by Stefani on 27-October-2009

Howdy friends! I hope your new week is off to a great start!

The boys and I went to rock and mineral show last week, and I just had to share a little bit of it with you. The show is cool and really so fun for the boys, but there is one part that we look forward to the most, all year long.

I give you, the Rock Food Table.

Food Rocks!

It's rocks that look like FOOD!

A big whopping display of all kinds of food: burgers, eggs, ham, doughnuts, jello… and it's all rocks. It's our most favorite part of the rock show. Hands down. Even better than the spinning wheel of fortune and the mystery bags.

(I only had my phone camera on me, so I didn't get too many good photos. The ones below are from the Rock Food Table website. There's more to see there, so go have a look!)

It's hilarious and mind boggling that rocks come right out of the ground looking like food.

But the best part about the rock table isn't really the rocks at all, it's the sweet people that make it all happen.

Bill and Lois Patillo are the warmest, kindest, friendliest couple you'll ever meet. They really do make you feel like you are a guest at their table. They'll talk to you about each and every dish if you like. Bill will pull a few samples of rocks out of his pockets to share with the kids. Lois will make you smile so hard your cheeks will hurt. AND you are 100% sure to walk away looking at rocks in a whole new way.

I kind of get the feeling that they haven't just found some funny rocks that look like food though. I think that maybe they've found the secret of life…. they're happy, and passionate, creative and kind. They go out in the world and see wonders that other folks just walk on by.

I want to be just like them when I grow up.

oh.my.word. That is seriously the coolest spread I’ve ever seen. I can’t wait to go home and show it to my Ember. She’s going to freak out!

I am so happy someone else has experienced this! We randomly happened upon on rock show a few years back and saw the food table – it was by far one of the coolest things I had ever seen!

That is so fun! I think I will show it to my kids, it would be fun for them to start collecting rock “food” for their treefort. A rock collection like that would obviously take a very long time but the idea would be so fun to try.

This reminds me of those books by um, oh, what’s his name …? You know, the guy who takes pictures of fruit and veggies looking like faces? One of the books is called “How are You Peeling? Foods With Moods.” It’s grrrrreat!

Cool show. Bummer that we had to miss it.
