I’m high on antihistamines.
I’m just saying, don’t expect much in the way of blogging genius. I’m gonna call it stream of consciousness, and hope that lends some arty vibe to my ramblings.
So here’s some things that brought me out of my oak pollen haze, to smile, if only for a moment:
My men asked their Dad where the trash went, so he showed them. He took them to the local dump. They apparently gazed upon it for a whole hour while I slept.
My James had this to say, “Man, I bet there’s a lotta cool stuff to find in THAT place!”
Amen, brother. Amen. He might be blond and blue eyed, but he’s his mama’s kid!
Daddy also took them for a quick fish in the lake. Oldest brother caught one and flat refused to throw it back, so Daddy made him clean it, cook it and eat it.
That oughta teach ‘im!
That was yesterday. Today, the big brothers went to their one day a week school, which meant that the smallest boy and I got our weekly “just you and me” time, which means, respectively, Whataburger (“water-burger”), the car wash,
and a romp through the bookstore.
Low and behold, right smack in front of the door, right when you walk in, I found two familiar names! Erin Harris/ and Meg Rooks, featured in books on display, right there for all the world to see! I was so proud that I hauled out my camera and took a picture. I was told that sort of thing is frowned upon, so I tried to explain, “but I know these girls, I mean, I kind of know them, I follow their blogs and you know, sometimes they comment on mine, and we’ve even traded some emails and stuff, so really they’re kind of friends….”
You can imagine the look that followed.
I put the camera away. So, this crummy shot is all I got:
Whatever.
Then, we picked up the brothers and I spent the entire ride home listening to belly aching about how thirsty they are, and how hot it is, and how “really mama, we NEED Slurpees!” So I, in all my mama wisdom said, “Tell you what, if you’re willing to ride your bikes the two miles to the store to get them, I’ll buy you slurpees.
They called my bluff.
They do not make NyQuil flavored Slurpees, in case you wondered.

At least the boys are having fun!
You must have a way better bookstore than me. I can’t find that book or Amanda’s book anywhere around me. I’m going to have to break down and order online since I live in the craft book black hole.
Still feeling you on the antihistimine haze. Hope yours is better soon!
sounds like one of my tricks – bike rides for slurpees (i have to admit i love them too). you crack me up with your undercover pictures of corporate america – first whole foods and now barnes and nobles! hope the haze passes soon friend.
A long bike ride for slurpees while hopped up on nyquil and such! Oh goodness, you’re brave.
As a mama myself (and not a weirdo), can I just say that I want to run my fingers through your boys’ gorgeous hair?
It is so pretty! I love it.
Oak pollen is my nemesis, too. I feel your pain. A bike ride through it shows true motherly devotion.
i love the explanation to the frowning bookstore person. hilarious. and so familiar. (and, can i come live at your house?)
Have you tried zyrtec? It’s over the counter now, and it is the only thing that works for me. My allergies are vicious when the trees start to throw pollen.
Sounds like a great day. I’m impressed with the bike ride for slurpees.
And the “whatever” made me almost spit out my coffee this morning.
Shh! Don’t tell my boys that store sells Slurpees.
Oh the haze is going on here too! Hope the weekend makes you feel better.
I’m so jealous that you got to see the book!!! I wonder when I’ll get my copy??
We’re all suffering over here – allergies, asthma, excema – thanks pollen
I’m always intrigued by tales of retail scorn about people taking photos. Don’t they know that being in “the blogs” is a really good thing? I’m telling you, there are marketers out there right now just trying to get product positioning in blogs, they add this line item to their PR agenda, and they say things in meetings such as this: “if we could only get in the blogs … the blogs are where it’s at .. and it’s a word-of-mouth economy” — and so on. Then their clerks (unwittingly) turn it away.
This phenomenen has not happened to me yet, but at my rate it’s only a matter of time. Hope you are feeling better.
Yay Whataburger! We have Whataburger after gymnastics on Wednesdays. Yes, EVERY Wednesday. They’ve only had Whataburgers in Alabama for about a year now, so we’re making up for lost time.
Or at least that’s my story.
Where is “the dump” by the way? I try to convey the importance of recycling to my kids by telling them, “What if we had to bury every single thing we throw away in our own back yard??” It’s the out-of-sight, out-of-mind mentality that I just don’t get.
That camera story cracked me up! I feel like I know my bloggers, too. You are not alone.

I know it’s almost summer now, the Slurpies have appeared. I hope your allergies start settling down soon.
You might be call it stream of conscious but I call it funny (especially the bit about the garbage place)… Sounds like you’re enjoying yourself inspite of it all…
if you are talking about the pin cushion book meg is in, i bought it for my mom for christmas and my daughter pointed out that the exact pin cushion i bought on etsy (from meg) is in it!! how cool is that? my pin cushion is famous, ha ha!
My kids would totally have called my bluff on that, too. Go figure–Slurpees are one of the things they miss most about Texas!
