Our 4th Was ::
Letting raindrops fall on our tongues.
Splashing in puddles.
Catching the rain in our hands. When we had our fill of the music of rain hitting the sidewalk, we made our own musical instruments. We call this one the “Trumpetar”. It’s awfully good for parading about and expressing one’s gratitude for freedom. And if you should happen to be parading about the house, you should definitely make yourself some t-shirts for the occassion. The boys drew their ideas on freezer paper, except for Ryder, who lent his hand for tracing. I cut them out. Add in an iron and some fabric paints, and you’ve got yourself a shirt or three! Thanks to Jen for the inspiration. As if that weren’t enough, we went to see Ratatouille. (So endearing and beautifully done). It inspired us to come home and make a yummy pie thing full of thinly sliced squash and zuchinni, peppers, onions, and tomato, all tossed with herbed goat cheese, basil and chives, and some chicken/apple sausage. So good. Even my picky eaters loved it. For real. Of course, I find that they’ll eat just about anything that they have a hand in making. Likewise for anything that is a prerequisite for eating ice cream. We finished up by standing in the yard to take in some fireworks and then watching this guy do America proud at the annual Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest. Ain’t that America? I don’t think we’ll touch a hot dog for a VERY long time.
