The birthday celebrations continue…
My guy requested that in lieu of a birthday party this year, we could have a day in which he planned the activities. We had made a list of all the stuff he loves to do, and then whittled it down to a reasonable few.
He chose to go downtown and ride the Dillo (a city bus that looks like a trolley – a boatload of boy enjoyment. And since you can get a full day pass for only $.50 it's a heck of a deal). He also wanted to visit the capital, have lunch at the playground on top of Whole Foods, visit Amy's ice cream, ride go carts and end with a "stay up late, brother sleepover in the schoolroom, movie night."
To say that it was a full day would be a serious understatement.
What my chicken-loving birthday boy does not know is that he's got one more BIG surprise coming his way today from his grandparents. They are taking him up to Texas A&M to get a personal tour of the Poultry Science facility (from a family friend who is going to school there in majoring in chickens
AND we'll go to a baseball game.
He's going to freak completely the heck out when he learns of our plans. I love that.

There's a few more photos of our day over at our Flickr site.
And now I'm off to dig up the sunscreen and Aggie shirts!

That sounds so fun and a day. I would like that kind of day!
Love the color shots!
Just one word, “WHOOP”
Happy day! Looks like you had so much fun.
Yeah for spring and sunshine!
What a great day! I can’t wait to see pictures from the big surprise today! So fun!
Super Birthday! So insightful the things they pick when they can pick “anything”!
Love all the photos! I’m sure that your guy loved his surprise evening!
Well he actually WANTED to go to the ocean for his birthday but we had to reign in those big ideas just a little. I won’t tell him that you’re going or he’d be trying to hide in your suitcase!
Thanks Mary! It was a lot of fun for everyone, and I think it will prove to be a memorable birthday for him. The other two are already talking about what THEIR special days would include.
Have you been to an Aggie baseball game? We never had, only football, and it was a totally different feel, but crazy good fun anyhow.
There was lots of WHOOPin goin’ on!
My pictures didn’t turn out so hot, but it was very educational for all of us. We’ve always wondered what went on inside those big chicken houses. I figured the day would either solidify his love of all things chicken, or make him run the other way…
Turns out he’s a tried and true chicken dude.
It WAS! I really never thought he’d pick what he did. It was great fun to see his whole thought process in planning his day.
Oh yes… over. the. MOON!
How fun! And Amy’s ice cream–yay!!
Hi! I’m a new reader of your blog; can’t even remember how I found it. I love your photography! I especially love the Looking Down on Congress photo in this post.
We have a lot in common – I homeschool my 3 boys also, am trying to be a better photographer, and we love to explore nature, too. I’m enjoying your blog!
