Well, as promised, we went on a dumpster diving mission to find fodder for our little box building enthusiast.
I felt like a criminal, driving around the backs of strip malls. And I'm sure I looked like one too, casting furtive glances before a quick dash out of, and back into, the car. I felt like I should have worn a shirt that said "I don't usually do this sort of thing."
As a matter of fact I kind of think that my entire wardrobe should consist of shirts with disclaimers printed on them. "Sometimes I bathe." "Yes, they're all mine." "One day I'll match." "No, I'm NOT too old for a pony tail."
Anyhow, the box fort building was good. I passed out flashlights and rolls of duct tape to all six little sleepover dudes. They made themselves welcome to every butter knife and marker in the house. They had themselves a rip roarin' good time.
And the birthday boy? He could not be more happy.

THe things we do for our little ones! Just wait–I am sure there will be many more adventures!
that is SUCH a good idea, haha! loved your disclaimers
Looks like he had fun!

love the t-shirt slogans. i could probably use a few shirts like that, too.
thanks for the idea of fun with cardboard boxes…we’ll have to try that!
I could use some of those shirts too! Can one ever be too old for a ponytail? If we all do it, then it will be okay… right?
Happy Wednesday!
What a fun idea for a birthday party! I’ll store this one up for my little guy. I’ve got a box adventure cooking myself… I’m hoping to create a cardboard box castle to go with some knights for Christmas for my son… if it works out, I’ll share about it!
How fun!
cute!
that is so funny! i saw this t-shirt the other day and thought instantly of you! it would make a nice addition to that silly t-shirt ‘wardrobe’. i think i need some of those as well

That is a really cute heading you’ve got there! All wintery and dream-like.
How cool is that!
really? one can be too old for a pony tail?
It looks like a great time was had by all, including you. Home Depot has great refrigerator boxes. Free.
You are a wonderful mom! Love the fort idea!
AW! I remember when my little guy built himself box forts and had SO much fun! I wonder if maybe I should give him one last opportunity before puberty hits and he’s far too sophisticated to do such childish things.
Yes, yes I think I should. I don’t think I’ll get another chance to see it.
Just have to ask-do people really ask you if they’re all yours? Is 3 considered a lot of kids?
what a good mommy you are!
this is great! love the simple play, we just moved and of course have lots of boxes, which are right now sitting in the garage. i’m sure they will be built into forts and play houses one day.
love your photo of the “boy in the box”, thank you
That picture could have been taken in our home! Boxes and knives, hmmmm and duct tape
Warm wishes.
you could TOTALLY sell those t-shirts. i think i could buy all of them. along with one of those classy one that says “i (heart) boxed wine”
responding to colleen p.: i guarantee people ask if they are all hers because she has 3 boys. boys in groups seem to double their numbers and energy, don’t you think? daily i am pretty sure i have 4 boys, even though i only have two!
Boxes are so great. I just snapped photos of my boy and his robot out of a carboard box creation.
And your boys are so blessed to have eachother. What could be better than a brother, except 2?
Greta
um, stef? you MUST get that tee.
Oh this post made me smile! I did a similar thing for my kids, we had one old box but not three, so to make the city we simply needed more. But round here they thought I was totally mad (seems you don’t let kids play in old cardboard boxes here). Oh to have duck tape! Next time we visit the states I will be bringing some back with me.
That looks like so much fun! I love playing box forts with my kids. Possibly more than they do!
I have an award for you on my blog.
Oh my goodness! I so totally need that shirt!!! Thanks for sharing it!
Well if they can, we surely have not reached that age yet. Right?
I don’t think three is considered a lot… I think it more to do with the fact that they’re three of a kind. All boys. It makes for a lot of noise and motion. Sometimes three boys seems like 6! I think also it’s because I’m have dark skin, hair and eyes and yet one of my boys is very pale and blond and two of them have blue eyes.
exactly!
a world without DUCT tape???? For real?
Well thank you!!!!
“I felt like I should have worn a shirt that said “I don’t usually do this sort of thing.”"
Ha! That made me laugh so hard! A t-shirt like that would get worn often around here.
LOL-I have a friend who is just about to have boy #6-in fact I have a lot of friends with four or more children, so 3 seems really like a nice little family!
