The Belly Aching Continues

by Stefani on 15-December-2008

My car is still on an extended sleepover with the mechanic.

Bah.

We drove all the way to Burnet last night to see Main Street Bethlehem. This is something we've wanted to do for years, and somehow have managed to miss, every time.

Alas, when we arrived, there was a very very VERY long line to get in. The parking attendant told us the wait was averaging about two hours.

We went home.

Humbug.

I ate a lot of ice cream and then moaned about the fact that the Year of Pie has turned into the Year of the Incredible Expanding Waistline.

Bah Humbug.

I would sure like to see the end of this little streak that I'm having.

I'll bet you'd like to see the end of the belly aching too. Sorry folks. I'm like Austin Powers… I've lost my mojo.

So, this week I'm going to do my very best to get it back, to wrestle up some Christmas spirit by counting my many blessings. I'm going to spend the week blogging about the things that are sprinkling this holiday season with seeds of joy, or something like it.

Today's attempts?

1) The courthouse in Burnet was really pretty, even if we didn't get to see Bethlehem.

Christmas in Burnet

2) Our santa… he's very much like one that we had when I was little. He makes me smile every single time I see his rosy glow.

Our Santa

3) And speaking of rosy glow…

If we had to come home, at least we got to come home to twinkly lights and a warm fire and Bluebell

We live in Texas… where we get to have fires and eat ice cream all at once.

Warmning

Stay tuned…

And Happy Monday!

I don’t mind the belly aching one bit. I must say I’ve had a hard time getting into the holiday spirit myself…too much going on, not enough of it things that I am choosing. And to top it all off, to celebrate the beginning of my 3rd trimester of pregnancy…stomach flu! Thanks for the chance to commiserate during this time of extreme joy!

Oooh – I wish I had a fireplace! I love wood fires! The bellyaching isn’t bothering me either – I think there are several of us out here which are having a hard time getting in the spirit. It’s probably because of the economy and the increasingly materialistic society we live in! Oh well. Your pictures are sweet – thanks for sharing!

I grew up in Kingsland which is about 30 minutes from Burnet. I now live in Arkansas. I used to go to the Main Street Bethlehem each year….with a wait of about 2 hours. I do recommend you go. It is so wonderful. Just plan ahead and go early so you’re not getting out real late. I have not been to there in about 8 years and have missed it dearly.

Some years it is really hard to be happy about the holidays, and it is harder to stick those grateful thoughts at the front of our minds. Hang in there!

Some weeks lately I feel as though I’m self-medicating with little moments of joy. I pocket the good garnet bits just to make it through the “everyday” blues like car repairs and sickness and … you know, every day stuff.

You’ll come out on the other side. Just keep eating ice cream and pie!

Your bellyaching made me laugh tremendously and read your post aloud to my husband. I can’t say that my feelings are too far from yours. It can be a very busy time. Thanks for your wonderful humour.

This hectic time of year doesn’t help with the mojo – hope it comes back soon

I’m so glad you guys are enjoying the fires right now. We’ve always done them with the little guys, but this 3rd boy is the first to be interested in touching the screen. We’re really gotta watch him. We just had some rootbeer floats in front of ours. A little California perk!
