… because it wouldn't be the Christmas season with out them. There are far more sophisticated and impressive Christmas cookie recipes, but my boys love these. They love them fiercely and they will not have a Christmas without them. Oh no.
And yes, I totally know that you can buy the kisses already unwrapped, but what on earth is the fun in that? Busy little fingers and piles of foil are absolutely essential to this recipe!
Peanut Butter Kisses
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1 cup white sugar
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup butter, softened
2 eggs
1tsp vanilla
1 cup creamy peanut butter
2 1/4 cups flour
1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp baking soda
Cream together the shortening, butter and sugars. Beat in the eggs and vanilla, then add the peanut butter. In a separate bowl combine the flour, soda and salt. Slowly add to the peanut butter mixture.
Roll into balls (we like ours a little smaller than a tablespoon) and then roll the balls in sugar. Bake at 350 for 10 minutes, then remove the pans from the oven and press a chocolate kiss into the center of each. Put them back into the oven for 2 minutes. Allow to completely cool before handling.
Happy weekend to you all!

Yum, we love these too, one of my very favorites! I had no idea you could buy kisses already unwrapped–that takes away the fun and that’s the kids’ most important job anyway! : )
*I* love these cookies and don’t care that they are simple, they are delicious! Yum!
my mom still makes these every christmas and are a big part of mine and now my little ones christmas memories! being simple is what makes them so good!
These are a “Christmas only” staple around our house as well! And I can still remember them being a special treat at the Buddies grocery store when I was a child.
I love *fierce love* even when it’s in reference to cookies. Of course, I’ve loved a few cookies in my day, too.
I was just checking in on your site and my husband was looking over my shoulder and said – my favorite christmas cookies….looks like I’ll be using your recipe this weekend. Thanks!
Oh those look delicious! I think the kidlets would love making them! Thanks for sharing!
Well, I think I’ll give these a go, too, in a gluten-free version. I’ll let you know! p.s. will you have a winter BOD anytime soon? : )
Amen to that! Sometimes the simplest things are the most wonderful, aren’t they?
Happy baking!
Oh do! I’d love to hear your gluten free version!
And yes… I think that the winter book should be ready in early January. Thanks so much for asking!
They are my most favorite. The fancy ones just seem like too much work and not enough return!:) We went to make them this week and the chocolate kisses expired three years ago. How on earth did I have chocolate in my house for that long and not eat it?!?! We’ll try again next week. Hope you’re enjoying them!
What??? Chocolate expires? I can say with certainty that will never happen in this house. WAY too many sweet teeth around here!
I can’t believe I’ve never made these! I’ve eaten quite a few in my days, but never made any myself! Bad Mommy!
Those are my absolute favorite Christmas cookie recipe. My mom always made them for me and now I make them every year. Oh so yummy! Of course, we call them Peanut Blossoms…but what’s in a name?
Stefani, how many cookies does this recipe make? I’m thinking of making them for my husband’s graduation party this weekend!
Oh yay! Happy Graduation to your guy!
Sorry not to have posted the amount… it should make about 3 dozen, give or take
