You know gals, I have made it my mission to get a little more pie into your lives, but now, NOW friends, I believe I can safely say that enticing more women to down good southern whiskey at all hours of the day might be a worthy endeavor too.
No?
Oh yes. It’s pecans, it’s chocolate, it’s happy hour!
I’m more of a red wine gal, frankly, so we didn’t have any Jack on hand. I had to send Mr. Blue Yonder out to the liquor store for the hard stuff.
He wasn’t all that thrilled to be going into a liquor store at 10AM. In fact, he swore that the clerk looked at him with “that look.” – the one that says, “you’re a no good drunk if you’re buying whiskey before noon.”
I told him that he read the look all wrong. Really it said, “Just who do you think you’re fooling, buying this itty bitty bottle, you lousy drunk?”
He wasn’t amused.
I kinda was.
Anyhow, make this pie and eat it for breakfast if you like! I won’t tell.
Here’s a hint though… it’s better warm and served up with some good old fashioned vanilla Blue Bell. If you can’t get your hands on Blue Bell… well, I just don’t know how you go on breathing.
Better skip the pie making and just go straight to the bottle.

There’s nothing on earth quite like Blue Bell homemade vanilla. Our commissary here in Georgia sells it and I look askance at anyone who dains to purchase any other brand of ice cream. I mean, what’s the point if there’s Blue Bell available?!?!
I know it’s going to be a great post when the title is “oh heck yes!” I hope Mr. Blue Yonder was more amused by the pie than he was by the errand! I would be!!!
Dang, girlfriend, I’m supposed to be doing all sorts of things tonight and then I check in on you and THIS?! I need this now. I’m thinking of walking down, in the dark, to the gas/liquor store down the road and buying some Jack NOW. I could be eating this pie by midnight if I move fast…
Oh heck yes indeed-y! I will be making this pie soon! And how did you know I am the world’s biggest BlueBell fan? Well, I am. In fact, during my short two winters in Minnesota, my parents actually drove some up to me because I was dying with no BlueBell in sight — 10,000 lakes and no BlueBell. Nothing compares to BlueBell. In fact, I am arranging a nice little creamery tour for my boy and his friends sometime in the next two weeks — I personally can’t wait!
are you for real?? of course , i sit down before bed and think i’ll relax and read up and i find this?!? it’s 10:13 pm and i live in the north!! no liquor store is open and we don’t sell it anywhere else here! and bizzy daddy only keeps beer here! so in the am , i’ll be the one getting funny looks draggin’ in 3 gawgeous little gals ro a state store! after vacation bible school mind you! we don’t carry your blue bell here, but turkey hill will do quite nicely i’m sure! thank you for loving your pie as much as i do :0)
Oh my, I wish I could have a slice now!! Thanks for the recipe!!!
oh, yeah.
i have two whiskey-loving people in my life that are gonna get this pie.
Oh my. You do know how to tempt a girl. I used to live in Arkansas and we really loved Blue Bell while we were there. I’m not even sure I can get it up yonder?! Kinda forgot to look…better get on that.
Found your blog via SMS – love the pie & your blog!
Hmmmm–do you think Kahlua would do just as well? I have some of that in the pantry, and I do love that stuff!
Though we don’t meet up very often, Jack is one of my favorite friends when libation is needed/wanted. He, along with cold Diet Coke, helps me with a miserable cough at night when I’m not well, he can take care of stressful headache on one of thoes days, and, as you know, he can provide a lovely extra something to chocolate and nuts!
I am the singular person in my family that eats pecan pie and I’m drooling. Mr. OMSH thinks that pecans are the stool of the devil, and my kids just don’t understand it is the best pie EVER.
And then there are those people that toss chocolate in there with the pie and screw it up.
ANYWAY…
I’m drooling. It is 7:52 am, I’m getting my kids ready for day camp, and I AM DROOLING.
Oh ho ho ho!!! I just LOVE pecan pie, and when it is spiked, it’s even better!!
My MIL (who is blond and kind of ditzy) tells us she went to a liquor store to buy rum for rum cake once and she asked the people that work there which rum is best for baking. She got some raised eyebrows when she started giggling. I wish I was there to see that!
I just so happened to buy a big bag of pecans last week, so I know what I’m going to make!!
Yummy! Sounds like my type of pie!
Now I am going to have to try this pie…looks yummy!
What might be even funnier is me, at 8 months pregnant, walking into the liquor store with my 3 children asking for the smallest bottle of Jack Daniels! I can only imagine what they were thinking.
That looks delish! Thanks for the recipe!
Can I say YUM?!? My best friend’s brother’s name is seriously-Jack Daniel, and the name fits him perfectly. I’m going to have to make this pie and take it over for him!
I’ve been making a Martha pecan pie for years with bourbon, but add in the chocolate – on my. I’m printing it off now!
Yippee for the BlueBell shout-out! I’m heading to Brenham this weekend and will be consuming my weight in BlueBell, tex-mex and bbq. Thanks for the recipe – looks like a keeper —
yum…my go-to thanksgiving pecan pie is a pecan rum & maple concoction that can be found at marthastewart.com. yummy.
