Man can't live on bread alone right?
Bread and cheese, plus wine and chocolate maybe, but not bread alone
Anyway, you all know I have been on a bit of bread journey, but as good as our bread is, sometimes a girl feels the need to branch out a little.
Enter the pita.
These are great fun to make, and even more fun to stuff. We've tried them with scrambled eggs, sprouts and avocado, steak and onions (a great way to stretch one steak far enough to feed five), turkey and cranberry, tomato and peppered goat cheese, even soft taco style, with spicy chicken, beans and cheese. There's just no end to the possibilities.
So go! Make and eat a pita!
The recipe we used is here.

We love to make pita bread – it’s so so good.
But I have a dirty little secret. Ever since I found the middle eastern market and its 2 packages for $1 freshly made pita, I haven’t made it. Because really, 8 fresh pita for $1? That I didn’t make? Yeah.
I should really go make some pita now, before I head to the market instead.
Oh yeah… if I could get ‘em freshly made for a buck, I’m not sure I’d ever make another!
They look delicious, can i catch a plane and drop over?
Ok, this is very strange,we made pita bread yesterday. Homemade is the best!
I will try this for sure! thanks for the tips.
Thanks for the recipe — they look wonderful!
yum… so fluffy-looking.
i love to eat bread…eat’n some right now… bre chez with a homemade bread!
however, those pitas look mighty tasty….especially all the fillin’s!
oh yum. yum yum yum!
Our favorite way to eat pita’s is stuffed with Chicken Ceasar salad and tomatoes. If the pita’s aren’t fresh we grill them after they’ve been brushed with oil and garlic. And marinate the chicken in ceasar dressing prior to grilling. So tasty!
I think the best thing about pita bread is that you can stuff them and not have to worry about your goods falling out.
Taco ones are my favorite.
Those look good! By the way, if you have a recipe for hamburger buns I would love that. I went to the store yesterday, as I am planning to make BBQ sandwiches, but the ones they had there for 78 cents were yucky-looking fluffy ones. Will my regular bread recipe do, or is there something extra needed?
Mmmmm…. Those look so good! We love to use pitas to make pizzas. It’s one of our easy, go-to meals, since they keep so well in the freezer. We just heat them up in the oven for a few minutes until they’re soft and then top them. Delish! And the kids love that they can be personalized- one loves cheese only and one loves chicken sausage. We’ll have to try making our own. Thanks for the recipe!
I second the pita pizzas– They make fabulous crust bases. Fast and friendly lunch fixin’s.
Oh, another bread item! Can always use another recipe in which the main ingredient is flour!
Thanks… they look so so yummy!
Looks like another project for Cailtin and I. We stuff them with sloppy joes.
There is a children’s story book that gives bread recipes for different cultures tied into the story line. The main characters go hopping from apartment neighbor to apartment neighbor and are given bread from each. Wish I knew the title. Reading about your pita bread adventures made me think of it.
Sure! We will give pita a chance
oh yum! those sure do look good, we’ve been a bit sickly here this weekend – those are really looking appealing to my fragile tummy. I wonder if I have the energy to make some up today.
Oh, thank you for the reminder! I have been wanting to make pita for the longest time. It’s on my list now!
