We got a wild hair. Is it hair or hare? Whatever, it’s wild.
We decided to just go.
We woke them up while it was still dark and carried their sleep heavy bodies to the car.
They were full of surprise and giggles and wonder.
They snuggled under blankets, pressed their foreheads against the cold windows and marvelled at the twinkling lights of passing towns.
“where are we going?” they whisper, because it feels right to whisper such a thing in the dark.
“alligator hunting”
************************************
hi friends! I’m blogging from my phone, so please forgive the typos. We’re headed to a lake, one that is new to us. We hear that if we’re quiet we might catch a glimpse of the alligators.
The boys are beside themselves with excitement.
Papa and I are thinking this parenting gig is so dang fun!
Have a great weekend everyone!

Brazos Bend? Supposed to be bunches of them there! Have fun!!!
Choke canyon, near three rivers.
You guys have a great weekend too!
That is such a great idea! The surprise, the spur of the moment, the getting away… let us know how it goes!
Have a fabulous time! Wish we could join you!
Oh, I can feel the excited, giggly, whispering feeling in my own stomach just reading your post! What fun parents!
What a wonderful way to be spontaneous! Enjoy!!!
Growing up my parents used to take us on “mystery trips” all the time. Sometimes they really were trips like the one you’re doing this weekend, and sometimes it was to get a special treat. Whatever it was it was fun and spontaneous and a very special part of my childhood. I even have friends who still remember going with us on some. My sisters and I all do them with our kids now too. We’re actually going the ultimate mystery trip three weeks from today. We’re surprising our boys with a trip to DisneyLand! AH! I can hardly wait! I have wanted to spill the beans about it so many times but reading about how excited your boys are makes me realize how fun it’s going to be to hear their giggling and guessing all the way to the airport! Have a wonderful time with your family!
Have a fabulous time! And be sure to get photos of any alligators you spot. That sounds very exotic to my northern sensibilities.
Wow! You are so cool
I haven’t been to that one we will have to check it out. We have been to Brazos Bend several times but not with my little guy yet. It is very cool to walk around lakes and swamps were they are in the wild and a little bit scary too! Ah adventure! Have fun.
Ooooh….. I wanna do that! A “mystery trip” sounds especially fun!
