It has been so warm and springlike here lately.
Highs in the seventies, gorgeous golden sun.

Our thoughts are turning to rolled up pant legs and bare feet in cold water, skipping rocks, sneaking up on sun bathing turtles, and the pretty patterns that the light and the water make together.

We ate our lunch on a strawberry print tablecloth spread over the ground.
They took turns being “brave Horatius,” crossing the river Tiber. No one wanted to be the doomed Etruscans though, so poor Jasper dog was assigned that role. He didn’t mind. He didn’t really want to cross the river anyhow.

We found our smiles in the woods, and we’re still wearing them.

We laughed and we sang, “Thank God I’m a Country Boy!” with the windows open all the way home. We talked about making dinner on the grill and looking for constellations tonight. We returned with pockets full of river rocks, mud between our toes, jars of moss and creek water to look at under our microscope.

I love my job. I really really do.

Wow, these pictures seem so impossible to me.
I love the winter and snow and cold of Ottawa, but, wow, these pictures make me turn my thoughts to the thaw!
Thanks.
Now you know how WE feel when we see pictures of real snow! Thinking of snow that you actually have to shovel, snow that you could sled or ski on, snow that you can build forts and snowmen with…. we can hardly wrap our brains around that. It doesn’t seem reall… like a fairy world. One of these winters, just one, I’m going to see my boys with REAL winter clothes on playing in REAL snow… but for now bare feet and the river will have to suffice
What a wonderful day!
I just finished reading your blog start to finish! Both you and your family are very inspirational! You have given me lots of ideas for when I become a parent.
Goodness Blayne! Thank you for such a sweet compliment!
And welcome to the ranch! I hope your day is wonderful as well
Wow! Makes me want to get out the hairdryer and melt the two feet of snow in our backyard
Oh Canada…..
Don’t get crazy now Anno… that sounds a bit dangerous
Maybe you could scoop it up and send it to us?
We’ve been hitting the Greenbelt a lot lately, too. It has been so pretty, hasn’t it? Something in the air has been trying its best to get me, though. Lots of sneezing and watering eyes over here!
Oh yes, Cedar is lovely isn’t it?
It does strange things to me. I don’t cough or have itchy eyes I just get dizzy and clumsy and forgetful. It’s kind of disturbing really to feel have drunk for weeks on end. Here’s hoping those trees cease with all their love-making SOON!
Jeez, whta do you get, a month of temps below 70? Wow! I guess we up in the NE hiberate for a few months in the winter and you all do it instead in the summer.
Pretty much. Crazy isn’t it? And now you see why I do all that belly-aching in the summer. We don’t get enough COLD to be grateful for HOT!
It has been beautiful hasn’t it? I can’t make the shift so quickly – there’s a part of me saying “not yet” b/c I know what’s coming behind it
Can you share the name of this beautiful spot? I’m always looking for places to take the kids to explore like this and there aren’t a whole lot of them here. Thanks!
You know, a great way to find all these spots is to go letterboxing. (www.letterboxing.org). We’ve found a lot of hidden woodsy spots that way.
I’ll email you directions to this one…
Remember this day when you in August when you are sweltering under the Texas sun! The river is beautiful! I’m impressed the boys know who Horatius is. You are a good mama!!!
Oh I know. Believe me, warm days are SO bittersweet right now because a part of me is seriously dreading what lies ahead. Spring will be over in a blink and then months and months of hell on earth. I’m trying so hard to live in and appreciate the moment while it lasts.
Just before, we were covering the great Athenian battles… so I lately have been witness to some serious heartfelt reenactments of heroism!
We’ve been reading about Rome recently
What I wouldn’t give for a warm sunny day!! Thanks for the glimpse, I almost forgot what that looked like.
Just promise me this… share your fall with me when we’re still sweltering hellish heat, okay? Stay warm!
That’s it. I’m coming to visit. I’m tired of cold
That creek looks so familiar!! I LOVE hiking a long the creeks here! My daughters recently went out to the one near our home and did a photo shoot of themselves. They love to be out there wading in the cool water!!
BTW, I DO have a cure for Cedar allergies!!
ohhhhh. i’m longing, now. I can’t. long. yet.
that looks like a beautiful day you had.
and i agreee, it’s the best job in the world!
And here I was thinking that my little guy was the only one who LOVES to sing/shout “Thank God I’m a Country Boy.” Sounds like a beautiful day with some amazing guys – good job, mama!
sounds wonderful indeed! makes me think of our last trip to a watering hole, which seems like much too long ago. we’re still cold and wet here. but you’ve got me looking forward to spring and singing a song i haven’t heard in years!
Please stop! Your are making me green with envy of your weather…LOL! Here in New England I am staring at snow and ice:-) Lovely photos and I am now dreaming of Spring.
What a beautiful spot.
I envy your weather~ low 40′s here and I’m longing for some warmer sunshine.
stabbing me right through the heart, you are!
