You’ll never guess what happened.
It snowed.

Like real, REAL, snow. Not just pretty white flakes that fall and promptly melt, but the kind of snow that stays on the ground and sticks around ALL. DAY. LONG!

The kind that you can make respectable enough angels and forts and snowmen from!

Okay, I realize that this might not seem like a big deal to those of you who live and breathe snow all winter, but to us… to boys who have never ever made a snowman… to people who don’t recall ever having a snow that lasted past noon… to us this is nothing short of a miracle.

It’s a pure, white, honest to goodness miracle.

We didn’t even have proper gloves, and we sure as heck don’t own snowpants. So we’d play until we couldn’t stand the cold and wet anymore, then we’d run in and throw our pants and socks in the dryer while we huddled under blankets. Then when our clothes were nice and toasty again, we’d go back out and do it all over . We did this all day long.

And I’m pretty sure that we’ll wake up tomorrow with cheeks that are sore from all that smiling

that is what we would be like it ever, ever snowed here – but that’s impossible!
Wow! That is so bizarre! We are having the warmest winter here ever! The trees are blooming and everything. No snow at all. I really missed it! Glad you had so much fun and what a great surprise for you!
How awesome is this! Stories for your little guys to tell on the front porch 70 years from now
Love the sock mittens and the joyful faces! I must have been fabulous!
What a wonderful miracle of a day.
Yea!!! How awesome for you! That is so sweet, the way you spent the day. Makes me want to make a snowman here in our everlasting, always falling, wonder-if-it’s-ever-going-away heaps of snow.
Great post.
You are going to LOVE having this blog to look back on. Have you ever thought about starting the formatting for putting it into book form for the kids? I know there are a couple of sites who offer self published, hardcover, bound books in color for reasonable prices… lulu.com being one. It’s so beautiful. I tear up every time i read you.
What?! How awesome for your boys! But really, isn’t it like frolicking springtime down there for you? This is something more like you’d see in my neck of the woods (like today for instance…it’s snowy blowy outside after a week of sunshine and spring teasing…)
Great memories…
From a land where it may snow nine months of the year, I just love to see the socks for mittens and the wet, wet jeans–perfectly expresses that snow is to be enjoyed, no matter what! Yahoo for snow in unusual places and double yahoo for kids getting messy in it!
So much fun! I have a cousin who lives in Austin and I know her boys were thrilled to see the snow too!
Love this! After living in Texas for five years I know what a big deal this is. Enjoy!!
Growing up in Louisiana, I STILL have memories of the one big snow we got when I was in grade school! We had a blast, and the sweet memories of making snow cream with my dad have last. I know your boys will look back on this for many years to come. Happy playing!
The smiles are just lovely! Here in Maine we are having rain rain and did I say rain =) Maybe our spring will come early this year! I am anxious to start my garden. I guess time will tell. Thrilled to see ya’ll enjoyed your snow!
Smiling and grinning with you here..! I know exactly what you mean – here in London we hardly have anything else but sludge, so when we had proper proper snowhut-snowgiants-building snow last year (and this year too to boot!!), we didn’t come in until it was very very late…. Fantastic, isn’t it!
what fun your boys are having, such a topsy turvy season for you guys, I hope we get snow this comming winter, stranger things have happened!
So fun!!! We’ve gotten more snow this year than in many years past and it’s wonderful! Of course we’re in the same kind of situation where the snow melts by the afternoon and the loveliness of white lingering blankets soothes my soul (:
aaah. good times. we in the UK always get soaked too when playing in the snow and then come in dripping and dry things off on radiators and then go out and play in the snow again – if it stays that long!
