I love this time of day. The evening, when the light plays her quiet games around my home.
She surprises me sometimes, when I come around a corner to find that she has been busy, illuminating, making some still and quiet, ordinary spot into something breathtaking.
My boys are out riding bikes with their Papa.
Vivaldi is weaving his tale of the Seasons.
Pots are simmering.
Wine is poured.
It is quiet and calm, for the moment.
For now,
Before young men bustle in and bring the world with them…
… full of stories and dirt, in want of dinner.
Now though, the light and I reach to each other across the table,
and sigh.

Beautiful, Stefani. Just beautiful.
I love that too, so much. It’s happening right now in fact, dappling across my fingers as I type, at the dining room table, before I start your baked potato soup recipe, and pour myself my own glass of wine.
you are a poet, stef. :^)
remember what I said in my last comment? ditto.
“the light and I reach to each other across the table…”
oh my, stefani. there you go again, stringing words together in that special way that you do.
Beautiful. Thank you for the reminder to look at the light. And the small things.
The picture you paint with your words is as exquisite as the image you included.
so i am finding myself thinking ooo! ooo! is that your inside? how fun to see bits and pieces of your inside life…
beautiful.
and i like your new header.
Lovely.
Beautiful way to capture those brief and fleeting moments of light and shadow.
Alice Walker wrote about the “quiet sheens and surfaces of light” in her house. That and your writing remind me how one of my best friends, when I was living in College Station, was the weather. Weather there was company for me in exactly the way you are talking about light. A moving living beautiful presence. I like that thought. Something a mother takes comfort in. Something as calm and quiet and unaffected by the chaos as I hope to be in my parenting.
once again, beautiful post stef!
ahhhhhh. I love that time of day so much. The afternoon sun colours shifting and changing. Magically making mundane (though your house looks magical in itself) into intense or exotic or beautiful. Enjoy your quiet moments.
Please, please.. more photos of your interiors.
