Do you know that all day long I thought it was Friday? All. Stinking. Day.
What the heck is wrong with me? I would start googling early onset dementia, but I know myself better than that. A surefire way for me to acquire new symptoms is to go around reading about them. 10 minutes on MedicalAnswers.com and I walk away with at least 4 self-diagnoses.
In the fifth grade I kept a nurse's reference book under my bed. In that one year alone I had malaria, leukemia, thyroid problems, lupus, lyme disease, jaundice and the plague. My mother finally confiscated the book, and I was miraculously cured until the 6th grade came around and we were required to dress for P.E. at which point I developed a severe case of ongoing nausea.
Anyhow, thanks for being so supportive of my creative endeavors, y''all, You're the best bloggy friends EVAH!
Here's a few of the things I scribbled in my spanking new sketchbook today, which was not, in case you wondered, Friday.
Nope, it was Thursday. All day long.
Now really, have yourself a wonderful weekend

Well, how’s that for a wake up call? I thought it was Friday too. I had to check the date on my e-mails and double check my calendar. Freaky.
These are absolutely amazing!
They remind me of Maurice Sendak’s, Where the Wild Things Are (a favorite read aloud when my kids were little). Just the other night at the midnight showing of Harry Potter we saw a preview for the new movie based on the book and I turned to my 15 year old son and said, “We are soooo going to see that!”
Thanks for the evening laugh too. I loved your story about the grade school “illnesses”.
Oh and the dementia thing… at my house the memo out lately is “not to give mom anything important if you every want to see it again and not have it lost in some black hole of mom’s mind”
I’ve done that. In fact I think that’s what summer is for, really. Just forget what day it is all together and drink wine and eat ice cream. I mean really.
The elephant boy and the falling little girl are my faves.
Never mind. When are you publishing a children’s story? I want them all.
What sweet little drawings! I would love to see the stories your men could come up with, with these as illustrations!
Could these be the beginnings of picture books? If not, maybe they should be.
Well good. At least I’m not the only goofball in town
Happy Friday…. again!
Ha! That’s bad when the whole family is on to you!
I saw the previews of that movie too! It looks to be really good. I just so hope that it is. There’s nothing worse than when the movie makers wreck a classic. You know?
Thanks so much! I dunno… when I get up off my sorry rear and figure out how that whole business works?
It kinda sucks that you can’t just draw fun pictures and tell a good story and expect to get anywhere. You have to be all professional and stuff!
I think you might know my men pretty well. They had a field day dreaming up story ideas to go with the drawings today!
They decided that the monster’s name was Smidge (because he started out just a wee little smidge of a thing and got real big real fast) and the girl’s name is Pepper.
Well… we have had a great time thinking up stories to go with them, so maybe yes… maybe
It’s official …. when I finally finish writing my children’s book, I want YOU to do the illustrations
your pencil drawings are fabulous! enjoy your friday!
These are amazing! I love the little hand and the big hand together. I second Mad Woman, you are doing my future book illustrations!
LOVE love LOVE those monsters! My son and I are big monster lovers in general here and those are fabulous! I especially like the little girl high fiving the one big monster hand!
As for losing track of the days? I haven’t know what day of the week it is since I gave birth. I gave myself up to blissful ignorance long ago!
But now that I know that I’m reading this on a Friday… HAPPY WEEKEND to you!
See – now I just thought you were getting a jump on the Illustration Friday crowd! I rarely know what day it is, unless I remember to look at my iphone before I unlock it…
Great illustrations, today – those are some fiercely fuzzy monsters!
I love love love your illustrations and agree that you should draw for a children’s book. I’m wondering if you have any “training” or if you just have this natural drawing talent plus a lot of practice. I’ve been sketching a lot lately and wondered if there were any good resources out there to help with technique. Happy Friday (for real)!
She SHOULD definitely draw for a kid’s book! I have a million stories in my head, but draw worse than my 5 year old. Maybe we should collaborate!
Seriously! Write and illustrate a children’s book! Your drawings are so so creative.
Hahaha, welcome to friday again. Don’t put that pencil down ! I just love those drawings. They are so inventive and fun. You are such a talent. Happy weekend.
Valarie
I feel a children’s book in the making! Those are wonderful!
Or make them into greeting cards/prints/something and sell them with the Book of Days. I would buy them!
Hi Stafani,
I can’t explain how much I love those sketches! I want to be that little girl with the big furry monster friend/protector! So stinkin’ cute! You need to write a book to go with those characters…no a series, they look like they could have MANY adventures!
Anyway, a teacher friend of mine posted on facebook today that the sign of a successful summer is waking up and having to figure out what day it is. I think your summer sounds very successful!
Enjoy Friday #2!
Janelle
(Benji’s mom)
Don’t take abnormal psych! That will get you going, too!:)
LOVE the monsters! I’d definitely buy the book…
I laughed at your post because I thought it was Friday all day yesterday, too. It wasn’t until my computer autofilled a date at 4:30 pm that I realized it was Thursday.
It looks like the making of a children’s book! I love it – I would buy it!
i do so love your drawings and i think i am the little one on that elephant’s back. my babes are all on a getaway at nana and papa’s, it’s my 11 year anniversary and i am loving it, but SO still missing them.
well you know what I think…. if you were looking forward to Friday then you are just optimistic! ;0) Cute monster!
Thank you, Brittany!
Nope… no formal training at all. In fact, no informal training either
I wanted so badly to take art classes in high school and college, but had some very persistent voices in my ear telling me that I should be focusing on endeavors that wouldn’t lead me to the poor house. It’s such a shame really. It’s made me that much more determined to help my kids find their gifting and to encourage them to pursue those talents/interests relentlessly.
Good luck with your sketching. Do share!!!
Well girl, get that book written already!!!!
I’m ready and willing!
Get to writing, lady! I’ve got my pencil poised and ready
and to you, friend!
Here’s to embracing the bliss (or ignorance!)
I’m really trying to figure that stuff out… the whole business of printing and what not. Stay tuned! And thank you so much for the encouragement!
Well hello Janelle! So good to see you here!
You know what? I kinda want to be that little girl too!
Thank you for your kindness, and here’s wishing your summer is a success too!
no doubt!
Oh I know that conflicted feeling! Soak it in, Mama! And Happy Anniversary!
I’m not sure how, but I missed this post when it went up! I love love love that friendly monster! These are such awesome sketches! And for some reason, I really love them in pen and ink fashion, no color involved. It just lets the sweet scenes speak for themselves!
