At the last minute today I decided to get over my fear of being in the presence of "real artists." So, I did a very quick sketch of this week's Illustration Friday topic and submitted it.
The topic is "hollow," so I whipped up this little drawing, gave it a quick color wash and was, all in all, pretty pleased with it, and also pretty pleased with myself for working up the nerve to join in with all those amazingly talented people.
That was until I noticed that all my hatred of this dang heat and the subsequent pining for fall has created a little bit of an anachronistic flaw in this illustration. Baby birds? In the fall?
Crud.
Oh well. It's my world and I can draw it any way I want to. Right?
Right.
There's lots of other flaws in this sketch. Lots. But that's alright. It's a start.
Now it's your turn. Go out and do something that scares you. Even if you mess it up, you'll still be proud of yourself.

Good for you for taking a risk! I’m always pushing myself to take risks, but so glad that I do. Here’s the funny thing. I saw your drawing and just thought, “how wonderful!” I would have never noticed the fall vs. baby birds thing until I read your next paragraph. Isn’t that just a fine example of how we point flaws out about ourselves (or the things we do) when probably no one else would notice?! Gave me a good chuckle… I do that sort of stuff to myself all the time. You have a great weekend too! (It’s been ages since I left a comment here so I figured it’s about time.)

Oh that’s funny, and so very true. It is so much easier to see our own flaws than it is to see them in others. Then again, there’s those folks who see fault so easily in others and are blind to their own. It’s so hard to find that middle ground isn’t it?… grace.

This is very good for a sketch! It could be a story of baby birds who were miracles to be born at such a time! ^_^
I look forward or back on fall all the time! It has a sweet mystery about it… and when we are in the middle of it I feel connected. And I have seen baby birds in the fall!!!
