IF – You Put Your Great Grandmother’s Pillowcases on Your Bed

by Stefani on 6-June-2007

Bed

… along with some thrifted vintage sheets, and your Great Aunt Vivian’s Turtle Quilt, will you sleep they way you would if all of those grandmothers, combined, rocked you on their laps?

Reminds me of that Shawn Colvin song, Polaroids:

“Please no more therapy
Mother take care of me
Piece me together with a needle and thread.
Wrap me in Eiderdown
Lace from your wedding gown,
Fold me and lay me down on your bed…”

I love vintage looking sheets, had a thrift store find the other day of a vintage pillowcase in oranges with big butterflies… beautiful.

Lovely! I’m visiting via Soulemama’s link to this post. Great blog–love your photos and writing. You and I apparently share similar interests and background (former Texan, here!).

Hi! I also followed the link from Soulemama…lovely. Great idea for a series of posts, and that bed just looks fantastic!

Stefani June 6, 2007 at 8:11 pm

I’m blushing furiously over having been mentioned on SouleMama’s blog! Thank you all, so much, for visiting, and for all the kind words!

Congrats on the linky love! And loved this post!

This may be the first time ever I get to reply to you… holy cow!!! I am you lurking fan. I guess it was my computer’s problem all along. For some reason it just kept crashing every time I tried to comment. Well, now you won’t be rid of me. I love your blog and I think that you’re writing is phenomenal. So Cheers!!! I’m here to stay.

Heather June 7, 2007 at 12:25 pm

Stefani,

I just want to let you know… I’m still having trouble. I can only comment to you without a crash if I come through Soule Mama’s link. So… because we can assume that you are newly famous thanks to Amanda and should be getting more comments, if you don’t, there may be a problem somehow with your typepad account. So let’s see… that’s if you give a blogger your opinion… tired of me yet?

Stefani June 7, 2007 at 2:21 pm

Hi everyone! And thanks, Heather for letting me know what’s going on. I’ve heard this from a few other people as well. I don’t understand it. I don’t seem to have any weird settings. I’ve sent a note to Typepad to ask for help, so we’ll see what they say, and I’ll do what I can to fix it.

Have a great day!

i am happy to say i stumbled on to you on my own…didnt see the mention on soulemama!

Love those vintage sheets and the darling turtle quilt! There is just something so comforting about vintage textiles – I’m not sure if it’s the memories or just the softness found with them, but they’re pure bliss.
(I’m visiting via SouleMama, like so many before me…)

Kate (commented above) sent me this link because she knows this is my most favorite quilt pattern of all time, and that I’m constantly looking for it and simultaneously working on a my own quilt like it. LOVE LOVE LOVE. Thanks for the post

oh, turtle quilt.

I think the idea of wrapping others many year after we are able to wrap others is part of why quilters quit.

Molly June 20, 2007 at 10:55 am

Lovely quilt, lovely post. Makes me want to curl up in bed too… so sweet. I have a quilt from my grandmother, but we haven’t been brave enough to put it on the bed–I have a tendency to break things! 🙂
