I'm not sure there's anything cozier than waking up to icy white rooftops,
or any sweeter balm for a homeschool mama's worrisome mind, than watching her little ones fall in love with reading.
My middle man has just finished his second chapter book.
My oldest has lost count of how many he's read.
And oh how that does my heart good!
It does my heart good too, to watch my men's love for their new little cousin already sprouting.
And to be able to introduce him to you!
This is Collin.
Isn't he grand?
He stopped by this morning to sit by our fire and warm us all, top to toe, with his funny faces and mewling sounds.
In celebration of winter, and ice, and fires and reading and sweet new life, we've decided to give away a copy of one of our favorite winter reads:
This book is pure magic, and it could be yours!
Leave a comment before 11:59PM Friday night to be entered in the drawing. I'll make a visit to the great and powerful random number generator, then announce a winner on Saturday morning.

After a snowfall, I used to take my children (now grown) out into our woods with a paperback copy of Robert Frost poetry to read the snowy ones aloud.
totally leaving a comment because that is my favorite turtle quilt
You do paint a cozy picture. We are in Vermont with a cold-cold evening and the woodstove roaring and still, I don’t think I could capture the peace that you did with those reading photos. Thanks!
What a cutie! So darling.
I memorized this poem in the 4th grade and can still quote it some (mumble) years later. Would love to share it with my little guy.
Here in Calamity’ville we are all avid readers and Frost is one of our favourite poets.
It truly is a wondrous joy when a child falls in love with books…
I love your blog!
Oh how I love poetry come to life with illustrations. (We love the Cow in Apple Time…also Robert Frost.) I also love babies. In fact, I have baby lust. But boys that are growing up are mighty grand, too, as you WELL KNOW!
What sweetness….
The reading my the fire, wrapped in blankets or at the breakfast table, ignoring breakfast – that is true book love. You have set them on a path of discovery for sure.
And yes, the little one is so very sweet and those mewling sounds, oh….
And the sweetness of you, to have this lovely giveaway. We would like some Frost here, in warm and humid Australia!
All I can say is, “WHOOP!”
He is precious!
aah, collin is so adorable! so teeny tiny. and those fingers… so cute!
i love your new blog header by the way…
i’ve never heard of that book before, i’ll have to check it out…
that’s just about the sweetest little aggie i’ve ever seen!
Ooooo, I love cute babay photos and great books to share with my own little ones.
What a cute baby! Love the hat! Great header for winter too!
Count me in! We’re all about the snowy evenings…
Collin is so tiny!! I’m always amazed every time I see a grown person and a baby together and think how did one become the other?
And yay for little readers!
My daughter would absolutely love this book (and her mama too!)! xoxo, ~ M.
I love homeschooling and reading and babies and all three together. Thanks for the giveaway. I love your blog!
oh there’s nothing sweeter than newborn bliss … a good book is great too.
I love homeschooling and reading and babies and all three together. Thanks for the giveaway. I love your blog!
He is adorable and so are your hs reading boys. I would love to win this book. Thanks so much for the chance.
Newborns are so sweet! We are just entering the world of reading with my oldest, and it’s so exciting for all of us that he can read.
what a delightful book (and family).
I was thinking of you today as I spoke on the phone with my dad (he’s right around the corner from y’all) and he told me that it snowed – SNOWED! – there. We are in New Jersey, where I felt SURE we would at last see a white Christmas, and it is raining cats and dogs. My daughter is inconsolable that it hasn’t seen fit to snow on her (but MooooOOOOM, you said there would be SNOOOW here!) Glad you guys are getting a taste of winter!
Those are boys after my own heart…curl up with a book (and a cat) and I’m perfectly content. Throw in a sweet baby and I’m over the moon!
oh, two of my favorite things – kids reading books and newborn babes
you are so right – my oldest is just starting to read – and it’s such a joy (and also a tremendous relief!) to see her reading with confidence.
thanks for the giveaway!
oh, i wish we had snow here, too!
What a wonderful book!
oh! what a wonderful winter giveaway! I’d love to win!
what a beautiful baby boy! your boys will certainly love loving him up and teaching him many tricks of the boy trade. that robert frost book is on my ‘to buy sometime’ list for my own little guy.
I lovelovelove this poem!
I love your blog and am regularly refreshed as a homeschooling Mom by your sweet thoughts and undertakings
I actually clicked over to your post this morning when I saw your boys reading – the fact that you’re doing a give-away and showing cute baby photos is just even better!
Reading is such a wonderful thing for children (and adults!). I love to escape with a good book and a hot drink, especially when it’s cold out.
What a sweet addition to your already sweet family!
I love snowy winter mornings as well. There just seems to be something magical and peaceful about them.
That is one cozy little spot you’ve got there by that fireplace. And one sweet little babe you’ve got there to love up. That book is on my winter wish list, so please count me in!
We are making our way through my son’s first chapter book, Stuart Little (he’s listening, I’m reading aloud). I really can’t believe how excited we both are by this. And would you believe I actually read ahead a little after he fell asleep tonight?
We love reading on cold winter mornings too! Thanks for the giveaway!!! And congrats on your darling nephew!
Aw, what a sweet little baby. My son is learning how to read right now and we are having such a wonderful time picking books and re-reading books from when he was a baby.
I love your ideas and comments about being a mama of little men. Depending on my mood, i’m either moved to tears and super motivated to be a better mama, or I doubt myself seriously and think I’m doing a lousy job.
You seem to make it look so easy!
Beautiful! We are on the verge of reading here and it is magical for sure.
As for the baby, my youngest is only 9 months and already he seems so old in contrast to that little cutie bear.
How wonderful to be able to snuggle up under a quilt, by a warm fire, with a great book!
Hey Stef! Long time no see. I hope all is well. Loving that little bundle of joy!

Collin is such a love, and there is nothing sweeter than one child so tender with another.
Colin is so adorable! Thanks to the mama for sharing him with us.
Are those Magic Treehouse books your kids are reading? My oldest loves those, too. He’s just started to be able to read them on his own.
What a little darling! My 2yr old can’t wait til his second little sister is born late feb. I know he’d love the book to pour over this winter
I would love to win this book!
The baby is so cute.
Colin is gorgeous and sooo small.
I love the photos of your boys reading it is heartwarming to see your kids have that passion about books isn’t it?
That looks like a great book and we’d love to have it in our winter collection. Enjoying your posts– thanks!
Winter ice, a new bundle of joy, the love of reading…magic!
