Remember the sad ending to our chicken adventures?
Well it turns out that it was really a happy beginning in disguise.
Last week, when we had our first little peek at spring, we decided to visit the nursery that our girls now call home.
Guess what we found?
One of our gals was being followed around by three very sweet little chicks all her own.
We didn’t get any good photos really. We were too busy being awestruck. My little chicken farmers were beside themselves with pride over their grandchicks.
Silent, slack-jawed wonder, soon followed by gushing, ceaseless glee… that pretty much sums it up.
A small hand slipped into mine, gave it a squeeze and said, “Sometimes the hard thing really is the right thing, isn’t it Mama?”
Amen.
And I fully expect y’all to remind me of that a few (hundred) years from now, when my own three little chicks are flying the coop, okay?

complete and total sweetness! i am so happy that you got to see them.
How sweet!
How sweet that one of your kids knew that already. And yes, the reminder is important.
Ah, what a wise one. Wonder where he got that?
I think I know.
Lovely, lovely, lovely lesson for your little ones.
*sniffle*
Aw, that’s about the sweetest thing ever, Stefani. Lots of love to all of you!
Out of the mouths of babes! So very sweet!
What an insightful young man…
Awww.
geesh. your boys can just melt my heart sometimes.
what a great story.
Oh I am so pleased for you! I remember you telling us about them going away – this is such a happy ending – congratulations Grandchickens!
Oh how sad, yet happy. We had to let go of 3 of our hens that turned out to be roosters, which meant 3 different drives back to the feed store to give them back after raising them for several months and loving them.
The hardest one was our black giant, she/he was beautiful and so friendly. My little girl still goes outside and holds the other hens and sings them a song to the black Giant “Larry” formerly known as Lavinia.
I got teary eyed reading your chic posts, cause I’m in the thick of it now. I could have very well taken those pictures you’ve shown. I feel your pain, yet joy that your hens are at a better place.
Thank you for sharing.
