Spring Reads

Hey there!

As promised, I have a little bit of a spring book list for you. Here’s the thing though… it is really REALLY hard for me to settle on just a FEW good books. So instead I picked a few of my favorite things about spring and the good reads that go along with them.

Here goes:

Lazy days laying in the grass while we take turns reading aloud-

Some of our favorite sunny read alouds are – The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate (This is a wonderful book, but it does discuss evolution and one of the characters is trying his hand at making alcohol. If those aren’t issues you’re ready to discuss with your kiddos, this might not be your book), Strawberry Girl, Trumpet of the Swan, Charlotte’s Web, Little Farm in the Ozarks, A Child’s Garden of Verses (it HAS to be this version because Gyo Fujikawa’s illustrations are just beyond compare).

Jelly jars full of wildflowers and the chubby, grubby hands that pick them for me –

- Miss Ladybird’s Wildflowers, Legend of the Bluebonnet, Legend of the Indian Paintbrush , The Boy Who Grew Flowers, The Empty Pot

Bare legs running fast after winged things -

The Bee Tree, When Lightening Comes in A Jar, Sam and the Firefly

Looking for fairies in the woods and dragons in the clouds –

The Egg, There’s No Such Thing As A Dragon, Faeries

The amazing, hope-filled, rattle of seed packets and new green things –

The Carrot Seed, The Curious Garden, Jack’s Garden

Berry-stained smiles and the “clink” of canning jars sealing up our spring memories –

Jamberry, Blueberries for Sal, Berry Magic, The Little Mouse, The Red Ripe Strawberry and the Hungry Bear , The First Strawberries

Mud between our toes, puddles to jump in and wiggly wet things -

The Caterpillar and The Pollywog, A Frog Thing, Duck, Crawdad Creek, Near One Cattail

Rain drops that chase each other down window panes and thunder in the middle of the night -

Thundercake, The Storm Book, Come On Rain

The ceaseless industry and song of birds in spring-

My Nest is Best, How Robin Saved Spring, Rechenka’s Eggs, The Golden Egg Book, Flap Your Wings

Laying on a blanket and connecting the dots in the heavens -

Stars

Old quilts and sun-dried sheets to dream under –

Mother Earth and Her Children, The Quilt, The Quilt Story, The Keeping Quilt.
