Every year I think that I will summon up some wonderful, crafty sewing project for advent, but somehow, December never fails to take me by surprise.
This then, is my last minute attempt to whip up some manner of advent calendar.
Little origami shoes, each of which, when unfolded, reveals a written message that details a family activity, from having a faux snow day (shaving cream!) to taking a night drive to see the Christmas lights, to going out for peppermint chip Blizzards.
I used this easy pattern, and I must say, that should you and I ever be at a restaurant, chatting over coffee while our fidgeting babes grow tired of waiting for their pancakes, you can rest in the knowledge that I am now a certified WHIZ at origami shoes! I can surely keep them occupied by folding up a closet full of footwear from torn squares of colored kids menu.
The shoes are attached to a couple of squares of cork board using regular old thumb tacks that are now numbered, thanks to me and my trusty Sharpies.
Cheap. Easy, and Fun.

Now that we’ve got that wrapped up, on to a celebration of a different kind.
It is a BIG BIG day for us here tomorrow… our baby is turning THREE! He was very clear about his desires for his birthday – hot dogs, mac and cheese, cupcakes with sprinkles and a play kitchen. He is a man of simple tastes.
Happy Monday Y’all!
